The Holiday Season Isn’t Holly & Jolly For Everyone

you don’t have to fake your joy this holiday season

You don’t need to feel obligated to fake joy to meet others’ expectations. It’s okay if life isn’t holly and jolly, and it’s okay if this isn’t the happiest time of the year for you. When life seems broken, this time of the year can feel pointedly painful. Welcome the loving sensation of those who surround you into your heart. Just remember, it’s okay to feel pain even though everyone around you seems filled with so much joy.

Don’t push all the hard feelings away because they are inconvenient. Be sure to feel all your emotions that you need to feel. When you feel like something is missing in your life, it’s so easy to feel alone. If you’re missing a loved one or home life isn’t so peaceful, you are not alone in your struggles. I hope you can find the courage to rethink struggling in silence out of fear of ruining the holiday spirit. Prioritizing your mental health does not take the holiday season off. During the season of selfless giving, be selfish about your well-being, and check in on yourself.

Do not seek fake joy; find genuine healing. Yes, healing does require you to feel those not-so-fun emotions that most try to hideaway. I pray you welcome in a season of healing, and I hope it leads you to the genuine joy that you desire. You don’t have to fake it until you make it, either. It’s okay not to be okay, no matter what time of the year it is.
